Habaraduwa House nestles in an acre of lush, landscaped gardens bordering a golden stretch of beach. The house is designed as a series of stand-alone buildings, which means the four bedrooms enjoy total privacy, while all share the exhilarating experience of waking up to the sound of the sea.

LIVING AREAS

Originally built in 2001 by Australian architect, Bruce Fell-Smith, Habaraduwa House was purchased by current owners in 2011. The beauty of the property is in its elegant simplicity – each of the four bedrooms has impressive views towards the Indian Ocean, and the three front rooms have private terraces with steps that lead down to the lawn.

For meals, the dining ambalama, framed by vivid pink bougainvillea, is ideally shaded yet open to the sea breeze. A large, comfortably furnished sitting room forms the centre of the property and opens onto a spacious pool terrace. Adults and children alike love the games room – it is the ideal spot to curl up and watch a film or play board games on a rainy day.

In front of the garden, a wide swathe of golden beach, fringed with coconut trees, unfurls in both directions. From December-March, when the sea tends to be at its calmest, it is possible to swim directly in front of the property; however, at times there can be a strong undertow so swimmers should always be extremely cautious and children should be supervised.

BEDROOMS

Bedroom 1
Dressed in hues of blue and white, this ocean facing bedroom has everything you need: crisp white linen on the king four-poster bed, a writing table as well as an armchair and footstool. The bathroom has two hand-basins, a separate w/c and the choice of an indoor and an outdoor shower

Bedroom 2
With a wall of windows overlooking the pool and the Indian Ocean, this room features a teak king four-poster bed, double hand basin, separate w/c and walk-in shower

Bedroom 3
This bedroom has the added benefit of an indoor as well as an outdoor shower. Like the other bedrooms, the room is dressed in blues and white, and has a king four-poster bed. The limed woodwork along with the expansive windows facing the ocean makes it light and airy

Bedroom 4
Situated on the first floor of the original, old house, this large room has great views looking towards the ocean and a wide private terrace with sun loungers. The room features twin single four-poster beds (which can convert to a king) as well as a banquette which doubles up as another single bed, making it the perfect family room. The bathroom has a large walk in shower as well as a bathtub

STAFF & SERVICES

The comfort of Habaraduwa House is enhanced by the friendly team who manage it. A lot of care has been taken to recruit staff who really care about the property. The level of service, and the quality of the Western and Sri Lankan food produced by the chef, has meant that guests have made return visits, some staying for as long as a month.
