The two villas - Villa Mandalay and Villa Mandalay Dua, revel in their individuality but share a common soul, besides friendly staff. Contemporary architecture is interspersed with Balinese elements here, enhanced by Indonesian artefacts and paintings hung on the cream-coloured walls. The properties follow a multi-pavilion design, allowing privacy to each guest, and plenty of living spaces to spread out.

Water features play an important role in adding to the serenity of the experience. You’ll find fishponds and gurgling fountains wherever you roam. And of course, there’s always the swimming pool. Surrounded by sun loungers, the infinity pools look out towards lush rice fields, offering instant tranquility and a sense of calm.

VILLA MANDALAY

It is said that green is soothing for the soul, so with its glorious location overlooking acres of emerald rice fields stretching to the tropical turquoise ocean beyond, a stay at Villa Mandalay promises to be a serene one.

The villa’s tranquil setting is enhanced by a perfectly balanced contemporary design, with 25 metres of green-stone-tiled swimming pool creating a magnificent focal point. Buildings of creamy stone, with ironwood shingle roofs and rich dark timber accents, provide luxurious living and sleeping areas for up to 14 people. An enchanting bamboo pavilion 'floating' on a water garden grants unobstructed views and creates an atmospheric setting for casual breakfasts, sunset cocktails and candlelit dinners. Gorgeous gardens filled with frangipani, calla lilies and heliconia add swathes of colour, while lively fish ponds complement the tropical scenery.

Indonesian artwork adorns the villa, with a strong avian-theme reflected in Balinese paintings, and colourful carved wooden statues from Kalimantan, alongside elaborate friezes and a fascinating display of ethnic artefacts.

Golf enthusiasts will love the six-tee ‘pitch and putt’ golf course set into the lower gardens. VILLA MANDALAY DUA

A tranquil paradise with endless paddy views, Villa Mandalay Dua offers an opportunity to revel in the Balinese countryside. This entrancing, four-bedroom villa in Seseh-Tanah Lot on Bali’s south-west coast is tucked into a two-villa estate, offering exclusivity and a host of facilities.

Paying homage to local materials, the villa showcases Indonesian sensibilities both in its design and its decor. The stone flooring is cool on sunny days and wooden furniture tastefully placed around the house completes the overall effect.

Multiple pavilions ensure privacy. The master bedroom stands tall on the first floor above the living room, while two guest rooms share a separate pavilion in front of the long swimming pool. The last bedroom is perhaps the most coveted, sitting as it does near the entrance of the villa, allowing easy exit without disturbing the others.

The villa is perfect for a group of eight, with room for more on extra beds. Larger groups can rent it together with its neighbour Villa Mandalay. The 11-bedroom estate is ideal for reunions, weddings and retreats.

CONNECTING VILLAS

Seven-bedroom Villa Mandalay and its cousin, the four-bedroom Villa Mandalay Dua can each be hired individually but combine seamlessly to make an eleven-bedroom villa complex option, perfect for large gatherings, retreats and reunions. The two villas each have their own swimming pools and are completely private. They connect to each other via a traditional Balinese garden gateway and share the same superb staff team and secure parking area.

One of the greatest advantages of staying in a villa is the personalised service provided by dedicated staff. The staff at Mandalay Villas has been professionally trained and they will do their utmost to please with warm and friendly Balinese hospitality.

DINING

The chef at Mandalay Villas is at your service to prepare daily breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The villas offer an extensive suggestion menu of delicious meals featuring Asian and western dishes to cater to all tastes, with an excellent selection of vegetarian and children’s options. Make sure to try pepes ikan (fish steamed in banana leaf) and bebek betutu (a Balinese specialty of duck cooked in herbs). The chef can also grill up a feast of fresh seafood on the barbecue, and tailor meals to accommodate any special dietary requirements or specific requests. A stay is not complete without sampling one of the Balinese set menus, served buffet style.

To make the most of the kitchen and give staff time to shop, it is a good idea to plan lunch and dinner selections the evening before. Groceries and beverages are charged at cost price with 20% handling fee which is subject to service and tax at the prevailing rate. Guests will be requested to provide grocery money in advance, and the staff will do the shopping and keep receipts for reference.

FOR FAMILIES

Mandalay Villas are great for families with children, who will love the lawns and gardens, swimming pools and a chance to play golf. Those with toddlers will need to be vigilant, due to numerous fishponds and water features.

The option of renting both villas in the complex allows larger, extended families to vacation together, or even a group of friends travelling with their families.

The team of friendly staff will make children feel as welcome as adults, and having these willing helpers on hand gives guests plenty of flexibility and freedom to do their own exploring beyond the villa grounds (full-time babysitting incurs a small extra cost).
