Villa Thansamaay is a brand new luxury beachfront villa built on the beach on Samui’s spectacular southern coastline. It is architecturally modern with large rooms, wide-open spaces, incredible views and 27 metres of beachfront. And one of Thailand’s most respected interior design companies has given the villa contemporary furnishings, stylish features and a welcome nod to the island’s nautical heritage. The villa can sleep 12 adults and three children within seven beautifully decorated bedrooms. But those are just numbers; they don’t begin to tell the true reality of just how stunning this villa genuinely is.
On arrival, walk around the main ‘pavillion’ of the villa rather than go directly inside. Don’t look back, not yet anyway, and take a wander through the tropical garden, past the swimming pool that measures 14.5 metres by 5.5 metres, and down to the beachfront. And what you’ll see is the huge expanse of the ocean, waves lapping on the sand almost at your feet, the golden, sandy curvature of the bay and some of Samui’s closest islands.
As the villa is south-facing you can watch the sun rise from the east (to your left as you look at the ocean) and set to the west in the evening. And as you look to the west you’ll see one small and one much larger island. These are Koh Mudsum and Koh Taen (also spelt as Matsum and Tan) and they are only a 20-minute long-tail boat ride away from the nearby village of Thong Krut. Koh Taen is an island without cars or motorbikes and the single village on the island is inland and involves a short trek to get to it. One of the highlights of a trip to the village is seeing a seven metre whale skeleton at 'Bor Muang Sanctuary'. Koh Taen is the only inhabited island in the archipelago known as the Katen Archipelago and is well worth a visit.
But now it’s time to turn around and explore everything Villa Thansamaay has to offer. And the first room, just metres from the beach, is really a ‘villa-within-a-villa’ as it has two bedrooms, a TV lounge and a small kitchenette with a breakfast bar, fridge, sink and cooking hob, perfect for mum, dad and a couple of little ones. And the main bedroom overlooks the ocean, the beach and the lower part of the garden. In all, five of the bedrooms overlook the ocean and two look on to the garden with ocean-views from their patios. All the bedrooms are en-suite with very generously sized bathrooms and all are fully air-conditioned with king-sized beds and plenty of storage spaces.
Opposite the pool is a large covered sala with plenty of sofas for relaxing on and a huge wooden dining table that is ideal for al fresco dining any time of the day or night. Close by, though walled in and discreetly hidden from view, is a Thai kitchen – separate from the main kitchen – and your personal chef can prepare every meal from breakfast, to lunch to evening barbecues from this kitchen. Beside the sala are bedrooms three and four and these again are large and tastefully decorated and adorned.
The main part of the villa, just beyond the outdoor dining area, is on two levels and on the upper level are three large bedrooms all facing the ocean. The middle room is a triple-bunk room for younger children that also has a TV and enough space for them to play in and an adjacent bathroom and all the rooms on the upper level open out onto a large balcony that’s big enough to host a dinner party but is probably best enjoyed as a quiet, elevated space to take in the views and relax with a book and a glass of wine.
On the ground level is a very modern kitchen with all the top quality equipment any chef could ever need along with an excess of crockery, cutlery, glassware and cooking utensils. And there is an abundance of storage space and a separate larder/storeroom. The main living area has three distinct parts, a large indoor dining table that everyone can sit around, a spacious TV lounge and a secondary lounge-come-library. Those of you with a keen interest in interior design will be captivated just looking around the villa. There are a number of unique aspects to the lighting, the artwork and the soft furnishings. And just one of the many pieces of great interest around the villa that caught our eye was a small plaque with a short verse written by the romantic-novelist Nicholas Sparks, it reads:
“While I sleep, I dream of you,
and when I wake, I long to hold you in my arms.
If anything, our time apart has only made me more certain,
that I want to spend my nights by your side,
and my days with your heart.”
We’ll let you find it for yourself and let you discover many more of the wonderful design elements that make Villa Thansamaay so very special.
On a more practical level, the villa is very secure, it has CCTV cameras around the grounds and there is a live-in couple who have separate quarters within the villa grounds so there is always a member of staff on site. There is a Villa Manager, a Chef, maids and a groundskeeper and they are most discreet and will respect your privacy.
Villa Thansamaay is also an excellent venue for a wedding or family celebration. A wedding ceremony could take place on the beach and there is ample space in the garden for an evening reception with live music and dancing. We have our own in-house weddings and events specialists so please do let us know if this is something you’d like to find out more about.
You will find that Villa Thansamaay very quickly begins to feel like a home-from-home. Finding it is easy. Leaving it will be very much more difficult.

Within easy walking distance of the villa there are a couple of beach bars, just go onto the beach and turn right and take a short walk or go out of the villa and turn left and they are just around the corner. There are also several restaurants within walking distance, convenience shops and a yoga retreat. And within a short drive there are several temples of note including Wat Khunaram which is home to the Mummified Monk and the very beautiful Laem Sor Pagoda is less than 10 minutes away. The small fishing village of Thong Krut is only a ten minute drive and it now has more than a dozen beachside restaurants and a number of shops. And it’s the place to book a tour to the neighbouring islands of Koh Taen and Koh Mudsum.
